In 2015, it's safe to assume that your business has a website, a Facebook account, and a consumer-purposed email account. If you don't know how to market on social media, though, your online marketing efforts can only take you so far. You really shouldn't think of it as marketing, though. You should actually think of it as connecting with people. Some of them will be interested in what you're saying and some won't. That's just the way things are. You shouldn't fight it. You do, however, need to have built a social media plan if you want to connect with the right types of people on the internet. Consider these tips if you want to connect with people online.
Post content The first step is the hardest and most important. There's no way to engage followers on social media without posting content.
Don't let this scare you, though. Just think about topics that your target audience is interested in. If that's too hard, then just tell your sales representatives to keep a list of FAQs about your customers and what they are interested in.
According to a recent Entrepreneur article, this can give your content creation a boost:
"Ask [sales representatives] to send you frequently asked questions they hear from customers and prospects, and you’ll quickly amass a long list of potential article topics. Solving these customer pain points through content will not only help you educate and engage your specific readers, but it will also build trust, nurture leads and position your company as a viable solution."
Interact with followers
Once you post content, you can start interacting with followers. The best way to do this is to start a discussion related to your topics. This way, you can engage your followers and give them a reason to visit your page again.
Expand to other sites
If you're doing well on Facebook or LinkedIn, you should consider expanding to other sites to reach out to other followers.
We assumed at the beginning that you only have a Facebook account. Don't be like some companies that think they can solve their social media marketing problems by opening a Twitter account. If your marketing isn't effective, then it's your strategy that's wrong, not your followers. Choose the venue or platform from which you would like to communicate. More is not always better.
Convert followers to customers
Once you have a strong follower base, you can start thinking about sales. The idea is to bring followers from social media to your website so you can convert them to customers.
Content will come into play here since it links to your website. Otherwise, you'll just have to rely on your engagement and interaction.
This isn't a complete plan by any means, but it covers the most important aspects. To get into greater detail, you can start thinking about marketing analytics and conversion rates.
If you are just getting started connecting with people, then you need to build a social media plan.
