Named Entity Recognition - NER Analysis
The Need
This company was embarking on a program of development that would allow their customers to link from any document they were viewing to relevant content with the context of their workflow. They needed to create a system that was able to recognize entities withing several applications to create linkages from that content.
Methodology
In order to fully understand the need a full review of stakeholder needs, desires, and limitations was conducted. To more fully understand the need, user personas and workflows were explored and validated through focus groups. Competing products in the marketplace were researched to help determine the unique value proposition of the product. To insure synergies within the organization, existing development was reviewed.
Deliverable
At the conclusion of this analysis phase of the project a product roadmap was developed and delivered with the associated customer facing and detailed product requirements which were planned to be phased in over four releases. This was accompanied by a plan for integration into current strategic initiatives.
Customer Conclusions
The analysis and planning facilitated a discussion surrounding the existing implementation of strategic initiatives. By aligning this project with the current delivery schedule across the development organization, the business saved several million dollars in architectural debt and it facilitated the business taking advantage of development currently underway. This direction moved the business more in line with overall corporate and development strategy and allowed them to deliver more value to the customer.
